Ever thought to add flowers to your food?

Me neither, until I saw them featured in a magazine.

-------

Now, I am inspired to include these flowers in countless dishes! Edible flowers range from roses, marigolds, begonias, carnations, clovers, dandelions, day lilies, hibiscus, honey suckles, pansies, lilacs, sunflowers, violets... you get the idea. There are dozens of beautiful flowers that are perfectly safe for consumption, and add another level of elegance to chocolate dishes, smoothie bowls, oatmeal, and more.

Recently, I made edible flower white chocolate bark for a work-related event. The best part? It only required TWO ingredients.

I melted white chocolate chips, poured them onto a cookie sheet with wax paper, and sprinkled edible flower petals on top. Then, I placed the chocolate into the refrigerator to set for around 15 minutes. Viola! Done.

I then became inspired. What else could I put edible flowers on? How about my breakfast the next morning??

After surfing Pinterest for way too long, I found a stunning smoothie bowl that I just had to try for myself. I whipped up a simple strawberry banana smoothie, poured it into a bowl, and topped the smoothie with sliced bananas, strawberries, coconut flakes, chia seeds, and finished with edible flower petals.

The result?

A mezmerizing smoothie bowl that was almost too pretty to eat.

By now, I had deemed myself a MASTER at adding edible flower to dishes. My grandmother's 90th birthday was fast approaching, and I was in charge of making the three tiered cake for the surprise birthday party.

What better way to draw the attention of party go-ers than to add over a dozen mini roses?

So, I did.

This three tiered, gluten free, chocolate AND vanilla layered cake completely shocked my grandmother. All of her closest friends and family were there to spend the day with her, and the deliciously moist cake topped off the perfect evening.

Oh and by the way, the 9 and 0 letters were sparklers. The more excitement, the better.

I mean, look how excited she was? So cute.

I highly recommend using edible flowers in your dishes. At least try it out on something small, and you will surely fall in love with it. Who doesn't love roses and colorful flower petals?
